Cricket Formats and Competitions — where and how you can bet

T20

The fastest format. Each team has only 20 overs, so the match can turn at any moment. You will find the most betting market options here.

ODI

In the 50-over format matches last longer, giving many more opportunities in live betting. Markets like top batsman and total runs are especially popular here.

Test

In a five-day Test, a draw is a genuine result. The three possible outcomes mean the odds and number of markets differ from other formats.

jita A brief overview of jita cricket betting markets

The competition most familiar to bettors in Bangladesh is BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) — the country's franchise T20 tournament, hugely popular among local fans. Alongside it, India's IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are also among the top events for betting traffic.

When the Bangladesh national team — the Tigers — takes the field on the international stage, betting activity on jita naturally picks up. In T20 matches the pace of the game can shift within just a few overs, which makes live betting especially appealing here.

Beyond those, major events like the Ashes, bilateral series and World Cups also have extensive betting markets on jita. Cricket offers greater market variety than football and other sports because every ball is a new event.

Cricket vs Football — what is different about betting

jita Sports Betting Football and Cricket Markets

Both cricket and football can be bet on at jita, but the betting structure of the two sports is quite different. Football follows a fixed 90-minute structure with a generally low number of goals, so odds tend to stay relatively stable. In cricket, every over can bring runs, wickets or wides — meaning live odds shift from moment to moment.

In football, total goals, handicap and corner markets are popular. Cricket has all of those plus toss, top batsman, runs in an over and many other markets that do not exist in football. In Test cricket a draw is also a result, making three-outcome betting possible.

Football is also popular in Bangladesh, especially during the English Premier League or the FIFA World Cup. However, cricket markets on jita stay active year-round because the international cricket calendar is full almost every month.

Popular Betting Markets — how to bet on each one

Below is a brief explanation of the most commonly used cricket betting markets. All examples use Team A and Team B — these are not real teams or real statistics, just fictional examples for illustration.

Match Winner

The simplest market — pick which team will win. T20 and ODI have just two outcomes; Test has three (Team A win, Team B win, draw).

Good starting point

Toss Betting

Which team will win the toss before the match starts — odds are usually close to equal for both teams. Popular for those who want a quick result.

Quick result

Top Batsman

Which batsman will score the most runs in an innings — decisions here involve analysing the full batting order of both teams.

Performance market

Total Runs Over/Under

Whether the total runs in a match or innings will be above or below a set number — pitch conditions and the teams' average scores are relevant factors here.

Statistics-based

Top Bowler

Which bowler will take the most wickets — this market involves comparing pace and spin bowlers.

Bowling market

Multi Bet

Combining multiple matches or markets into a single bet — for example, three selections across three separate matches. You get a return only if all selections are correct. Full details on multi bets are in the FAQ.

How to read and understand odds

Odds on jita are shown in three formats — decimal, fractional and American. All three are different ways of expressing the same probability. Below are two fictional examples from the same match.

Example 1 — the underdog team

Betting on Team A to win, stake ৳500.

The same odds in three formats: Decimal 2.50 = Fractional 3/2 = American +150

If Team A wins, total return is ৳1,250 (profit ৳750 + original stake ৳500); if Team A loses, ৳500 is lost.

Example 2 — the favourite team

Betting on Team B to win, stake ৳500.

Odds: Decimal 1.80 = Fractional 4/5 = American -125

American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. If Team B wins, total return is ৳900 (profit ৳400); if they lose, ৳500 is lost.

Decimal odds are the simplest — stake × odds = total return. Fractional odds show how much profit you make (excluding the original stake). American odds are minus for the favourite and plus for the underdog.

jita Odds Formats and Betting Slip

As an example in limited-overs cricket (where there is no draw): Team A at 1.65 and Team B at 2.30. A ৳1,000 bet on Team B returns ৳2,300 if Team B wins (profit ৳1,300); if Team A wins, ৳1,000 is lost. This is not a promise of guaranteed profit — betting is for entertainment.

Live In-Play Betting — odds shift when wickets fall

Live Markets

In-play betting means placing bets in real time while the match is in progress. In cricket this is particularly relevant because a single wicket or a boundary can change the match probability in an instant.

When a wicket falls

When a team's key batsman gets out, their odds of winning drop and the opposition's odds rise. This change in the market is almost immediate.

Over situation

If runs come in the powerplay, the target becomes easier to chase; if several wickets fall in the last 5 overs, bets on defensive markets increase.

In-play market options

Runs in the next over, method of the next wicket, over/under on the current run rate — these markets are only available live.

jita Cricket Betting Tips and Strategy

Some useful habits for betting

  • Set a budget in advance. Decide how much you will bet before each match. Placing a large bet to recover a loss is not the right approach.
  • Start with one market. New bettors can start with the match winner market — it is straightforward and easy to understand.
  • Be careful with multi bets. Combined odds across three selections can look attractive, but if one selection is wrong the entire bet is lost.
  • Betting is entertainment, not investment. Cricket betting can be an enjoyable experience, but it should not be seen as a reliable source of income.
  • Responsible gaming. jita provides responsible gaming tools and guidelines. Visit the Responsible Gaming page to learn more.
  • 21+ age requirement. Users must be at least 21 years old to take part in any betting activity on jita.

Cricket Betting FAQs

T20 format generally has the most betting markets. Since matches are shorter, live in-play markets stay more active. ODI also offers a wide range of markets, especially in total runs and top performer categories. Test matches have match winner, series winner and innings-based markets.

In a multi bet, the odds of all three selections are multiplied together. Example: decimal 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.70 = combined odds of approximately 3.81. On a ৳100 bet, if all selections are correct you get back ৳381. If even one selection is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost — that is the main risk of a multi bet.

In cricket, every ball is a new event. When a wicket falls, a six is hit, or an over ends, the winning probability of both teams shifts. The betting platform reflects these probability changes in the odds in real time. If wickets fall quickly during the powerplay, the odds for the trailing team can rise noticeably.

Both BPL and IPL are played in T20 format, so the types of markets are broadly the same. However, IPL takes place early in the year and features many of the world's top cricketers, so performer-based markets are more plentiful. BPL features more local Bangladeshi players, which gives it a different appeal for Tigers supporters.

In a handicap market, the weaker team is given an advantage expressed as a notional run or wicket margin. For example, if team A is given a 10-run handicap, even if team A loses by 8 runs they may be counted as the handicap winner. In an over/under market a specific number is set (for example 150 runs) — you bet on whether the total runs will be above or below that number. No guarantee of any stake or outcome can be given here — this is for entertainment purposes.
